Tewksbury Classic Vehicle Show – Sunday 18th August 2019

Words & Pictures Kevin Fagan

This was the club’s 3rd year the club has attended this amazing classic vehicle show which this year took place on Sunday 18th August 2019. The show is organised by The Rotary Club of Tewkesbury stage and located within the school playing fields. In the past, we have had one or two cars turn up but this year it was going to be a bit different with 11 cars attending on the day. In addition to the Figs we had a couple of S-Cargos and even a PAO so really it was more like a Pike Factory display!

All set and ready to go. We manage to get a great location in the corner of the field. Picture Martin Isted

Patrick & Sarah Light along with Martin & Debbie Isted had driven from Cornwall the day before with a Gazebo onboard and met up with Peter & Sandra Pattemore at the Premier Inn which was just a few minutes away from the venue.  Pat had offered to get up super early and put up the Gazebo on the day which was a great call as it meant he had the pick of the field. He positioned it in the corner so the cars could fan out either side. We had pre-arranged to all meet up at the Premier Inn car park at 09.15 so we could convoy in together and as I drove in after leaving our house at 7am all the cars where already there ready and waiting. A quick catch-ups and we were off with Pat leading the way in his S-Cargo named Denzel and within a blink of an eye we had arrived.  We both jumped out and made sure we were all parked up nice and neat. Over the next hour the field filled up with a multitude of different makes and colours. With chairs in place and two gas cookers on the go the gazebo become the hub of conversation and hot drinks.

I did it my way. Frank Santra’s Zimmer Golden Spirit was one of many mouth-watering cars

The field is surrounded by dozens of traders selling everything from a second hand 1935 Morgan speedo to a rather tasty bacon roll. With so many mouth-watering cars on display it’s impossible to see everything in outing so a number of excisions to the cars are required. One of the cars on display was owned by Frank Sanatra no less. The crooner’s former vehicle, a Zimmer Golden Spirit enjoyed a constant draw of attention. In the window was the cars original Certificate of Title which showed his address living in Palm Springs.

Our cars looked fantastic and gained a lot of interest throughout the day. Strangely we never had a Lapis Grey colour on the day but apart from that all the Figs looked in tip-top order. I put up our little club A Frame Info Board which explains the cars history and specification.  As usual many people thought our cars were new or just a few years old and you could still but them and found it hard to believe that they were all 28 years old. The PAO named Frank which was driven down by Ann & Nigel Tyson attracted a lot of attention. Also, Patrick & Sarah were constantly busy answering questions about their white S-Cargo named Denzel which is really a large out of proportion noddy car (sorry pat!). In addition to the cars there was also dancing and music courtesy of the Haywood Sisters which were brilliant.

Join us next year
As a club we have been uniquely allocated the corner of the field by the organisers and would really love to grow our attendance at the event so look out for the 2020 event which we hope to publish before the end of the year
.

Thanks again to everyone who attended and Patrick light for his supply of the Gazebo
