Safety – Baby seats and if you can fit them?
As a club we are always receiving questions concerning “Can I fit a baby seat to a Nissan Figaro?” We thought it would be useful to post comments from some of a few of our members of their experiences…
I have just bought my first Figaro, and I have a baby and a nine year old. I have just bought a full size car seat from Halfords – Britax Evolva and it will last my baby for years. I chose it because it is quite vertical in design and fits a treat behind the passenger seat. I can sit in that seat very comfortably with the baby behind, we did a 100-mile round trip yesterday no problem! Cost about £135
I know it’s been a very long time since I posted, but just thought i’d share some fig vs baby knowledge! I’m expecting my first child in October & at first was worried about finding a car seat & pushchair that would fit. I shouldn’t have worried as there seems to be quite a few!
Pushchairs
At first I was going to get a Petite Star Zia 4 pushchair which I found would fit in the top boot just if it was upside down with the wheels under the back lip of the boot (it did make the plastic of the boot bottom ‘pop’ when you took it out again though, so not the best fit!) I instead went for Babystyle Oyster travel system which fits perfectly in the top boot if you take the wheels off (not as much trouble as it sounds – they just pop on & off!)
Car seats
You seem to have a bigger choice in car seats, I had two tried out in my fig as I was buying a travel system with a choice of two compatible car seats. Both were rear facing & installed in under 30 secs to the front seat (this is fine as it will be just me & baby going about in my car, longer journeys will be it my hubby’s car where it will fit in the back) One was a maxi-cosi, not sure on the exact one but I think they are all the same. The one I went for was the Britax babysafe.
With my little one’s days in the Britax babysafe sleeper numbered, I took another trip to Britax HQ (they’re only a short drive away for me), to see what seat suggestions they may have for him to move onto next. The dream of having a rear-facing seat (for use in front passenger seat) that changes into a forward facing one (that fits in the back) simply wasn’t happening. They have one such seat that can be fitted with a seat belt and it is far too big for figgies!! However, their babysafe and babysafe plus SHR II are rear-facing car seats that both fit in front passenger seat and can go upto 13kg. In order to fit in there, we did have to push the seat quite far back, meaning no leg room behind that seat. As mentioned by a previous post, the evolva 123 fits in the back and technically works from circa 9mths to 12 yrs. However, the Britax lady said that due to the limited head room in the figaro, the headrest wouldn’t be able to move up as needed for an older child. So practically speaking it would probably be okay until 3 or 4 yrs. Having the roof down would allow the headrest to rise for an older child, but not really a practical solution for our climate!! Hope this helps others with little ones who want to go in their figgy!! Just worked out how to include photos, so here are some pics of how they look in my car.
