Lighting – The law around classic cars and LED lighting in the UK

We all know the benefits of LED lights are lower power, longer lasting better brightness and compatible fitting. However, in the UK there are rules concerning the changing of these bulbs unfortunately, because the Figaro was manufactured in 1991, it affects us.

The MOT inspection manual states: “Existing halogen headlamp units on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must not be converted to be used with high-intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp for the light source and lamp not compatible.”

The good news is, you can change the headlight bulbs to more powerful Phillips H4 GT200 bulbs. Read more
