Dutch Figaro After Summer Tour – Sunday 25th September 2022
Words and Pictures Joyce & Pascal
Like the last year, the last Sunday of September was the Figaro After Summer Tour organized by Figarolikes.
We were looking for a nice part of the Netherlands, where our beloved Figaro’s would have a great drive. We had view options in mind, and the best area for 2022 was Twente.
CARS PARKED AT THE START
Twente is a region in the Eastern Netherlands, it encompasses the eastern part of the province of Overijsel
We found in Bistro “de Oale ste” a very nice and cozy place to start the day. Instead of a normal piece of cake with the coffee we had a very good, local piece of “Krentenwegge”, best to compare with raisin bread.
“For the first time since we started the Figaro After Summer Tour, we made a driver test to start the day. We have made a test with three poles in a triangle, where the intention is that the first pole is knocked over, by driving against it, but one stops in time so that the other two poles remain standing. Although only two Figaro’s were successful in the test, it was great fun for everybody to watch and do the test.”
After the test we showed the attendees the red/white blocked starting flag, along beautiful roads through a landscape as varied as possible, the route book leads to one of the best-known and most beautiful towns in Twente, Ootmarsum.
In Ootmarsum we welcomed all the Figaro’s on a lovely square in front of “Gasterij Oatmossche”.
While everybody could enjoy a tasteful lunch, the view of the square was so nice with all the Figaro’s parked in a big circle. The 2022 rally shields were made in “Pale Aqua” so we asked the four Pale’s to park next to each other on the square.
PARKED FOR LUNCH
After lunch, we restarted all the Figaro’s, the same as in the morning part they had to recognize eight picture moments along the way. We as well placed nine orange signs with letters next to the road, which gives points if you find them.
The more letters you found, the easier to puzzle the word that too made with the letters. Finding the word gives bonus points. The finish of the event was in entering, at “Landgoed Het Rheins” where we had a great lane to park all the Figaros in one long line, a great photo opportunity for all the Figaro-loving photographers.
With a small talk, a drink and a bite for all the attendants the jury had some time to check all the forms, to see who will win the great sparkplug trophy’s that we had for this year.
Like last year, the Pink Figaro from Gwenda won the first prize!
This year her mother was the navigator from team 1 but the family connection was very clear, very fanatic and very enthusiastic.
With so many smiling faces at the end of the day, Joyce and I are in secret already busy to plan the fifth Figaro After Summer Tour
