In 1990, Nissan produced this 14-page A5 brochure showing early sketches and detailing of the car. In addition to familiar images, the publication also covers interesting items such as airflow and additional strengthening and rigidity of the chassis. It is divided into sections including Concept, Exterior, Interior, Mechanism of convertible top & Specification. Nissan must have been looking for 4 colours to represent the seasons and rather the publication reveals that gemstones inspired these. Emerald Green is based on the crisp green colour of Emeralds, Pale Aqua is the blue colour of Aquamarine, Topaz Mist is the calm beige of Topaz and lastly Lapis Grey is the deep blue-grey of Lapis Lazuli.
The original publication was in Japanese so we decided to translate each page to English. It’s been a very long but enjoyable process as I translated each book page to English. While working on the project, I must confess to loving some of these statements, which sum up why we fell in love with the car in the first place.
POLOS AND CENTRE HUB
To create a stylish atmosphere around the feet, the wheel cover is made of two parts, with a white outer periphery and a chrome-plated centre.
DRIVING WITH THE ROOF DOWN
Even when driving with the top down, the body sides are there, so wind is prevented from getting into the cabin.
ABOUT THE SWITCHES
The switches on the instrument panel are designed with soft curves that make you want to touch them, and the thickness of the metal that you feel the moment you touch them.
THE INSTRUMENT GAUGES
We paid particular attention to the design of the pointer and letters, aiming for a design that you will grow to love the more you use it.
COLOUR DESIGN
We aimed for a refreshing and fresh image based on three points: a stylish atmosphere, beautiful colour use, and the fun of combining colours.
THE APPEAL
THIS IS OUR FAVORITE AND SOUNDS LIKE OUR MEMBERS!
The appeal of Pike Cars is their innovative design that is not bound by the existing model system, their playful and unique car-making, and their car-making that values the opinions of people who want a unique car that is not found in ordinary mass-produced cars. In developing the Figaro, we aimed to fully bring out the appeal of the Pike Cars, while also aiming to create a car with a slightly different atmosphere from the Be-1 and PAO.
Thanks to Japanese Member Yuki Sagaf for sending us a copy of the brochure.
