Figaro Suffolk Day Trip – Sunday 11th July 2021
Words & Pictures: Adam Woods – Sunday 11th July 2021.
After the amazing experience of the 30th Birthday Bash, and meeting such a lovely crowd of people, we were really looking forward to the Eastern Chapter’s Suffolk Day Trip just a few weeks later!
We had started planning a few months ago and wanted to take people on a tour through the gorgeous Suffolk countryside! After a few calls and emails, we had it all planned out and just hoped for great weather! We started the day by meeting at Ufford Park Hotel, parking up on their grassed pavilion area, and a slightly cloudy day became brighter and brighter as more and more members arrived!
The sunshine soon saw roofs come down and so we set off just after 11am, driving out in convoy from Woodbridge through UFO renowned Rendlesham Forest, then through Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, and then across open country up to Friday Street Farm Shops and The Barn vintage and antiques.
After a break to visit the shops or grab a bite to eat, we headed off again down the country lanes towards the unique coastal fantasy holiday village of Thorpeness with its Jacobean and Tudor style buildings … and as we drove through the centre past the boating lake we couldn’t help but toot our horns and wave at all the visitors!
From here we headed down the coast in the baking sunshine past the famous Scallop on the beach, beeping our way into Aldeburgh where the mayor had agreed for us to park up on the seafront! And what a great welcome we had, with all ages of visitors curious about our Figaros, keen to take photos and even just to say hello!
We chatted together about the journey we’d just made, the cyclist bemused by a fleet of Figaros over-taking, and the village gardener still waving as the last of our party drove by! From here the day was everyone’s own to enjoy the seaside, fish and chips, shopping and chat some more, while onlookers yearned for the joy Figaros bring!
