FigFest – Saturday 24th/Sunday 25th August 2013
Report from organiser Paul Atyeo on the event…
Well where can I start, what a fantastic weekend it was and how quickly it went and how many surprises there were over the weekend. I could probably write this as a diary of what happened day by day, but that would just be tedious and a bit boring for those of you reading this – so straight to the highlights and hang-ups – the weather was king to us from start to finish with glorious sunshine, we were promised another 2 bands from our mates Looney tunes so was so surprised and pleased when they had organised 8 bands for us all over the weekend. our friends Robert and Wendy renewed their vows on Saturday and used our figs as wedding cars, the church was heaving and you couldn’t get in, scooters in the church grounds added a lovely touch and they both looked fantastic.
Everyone loved the fig car treasure hunt through all the seaside villages and the fancy dress in the evening was fantastic with all the wedding people joining in as well and the venue was heaving and the bands were fantastic with music for everyone was lovely to see old and new faces and lovely to see Les and Maggie – who travelled on her own.
Thanks to everyone who came, me and Richard changed things around this year after a request for things and thought we were going to have a bigger festival for you all this year, but even we didn’t realise how big it was actually getting and we’ve got more people interested in doing stuff and playing next year. Thought we would have had a few more figs but people probably didn’t know fully what was going on. many thanks to my 2 darlings Laura and billy, Richard and his wonderful wife Chris, Robert and Wendy raven, loony tunes, Figaro owners club, and to all of you lot that came and made us smile. here’s to next year. stay cool.
