Figgys and Chat plus Afternoon Tea in the South Downs – Sunday 6th October 2024
Words and Pictures Adam Woods
Two things we particularly love about Figgy Ownership are getting to visit places that are really memorable and meeting such lovely people! There’s nothing better than bringing people together who have a shared love of all things Figgy!
Thanks to the Fig, we’ve visited so many wonderfully memorable places over the years, but nothing seems to beat the beauty of the British Countryside! So, for the first South East Chapter event we put on, the top of the list was to visit a beautiful landscape – finding somewhere with sweeping hills and lovely surroundings!
The South Downs seemed like a perfect place, and when we discovered Tottington Manor nestled in the valley, and their Afternoon Teas, and once they had agreed to arrange some Figgy Parking, we knew we had found the right place for an afternoon of Figgyness.
We were all set for 8 cars driving in convoy, but sadly one member had a puncture and couldn’t attend, so 7 cars met at South Downs Nurseries where members had time to chat with old friends, and make new ones, sharing stories and looking at the cars. It was also lovely that a father and daughter came over to have a chat, as they had their eyes and hearts set on a Fig!
And so, just before 2 pm we set off, heading along a route we had researched which would take us through some towns and villages, before the route opened up to the amazing landscape of the South Downs. While it was October, it was beautiful to see the leaves turning and the mist across the hills… It tried to rain but our sheer determination to enjoy ourselves kept the rain clouds at bay!
What’s particularly lovely about visiting a place like this is that we see other places on the route that we didn’t know existed… so we can make plans to return and discover some more lovely places on another Figgy day out in the future!
Around half an hour later we arrived at Tottington Manor for more chat and photos, and then headed in for what was a truly scrumptious Afternoon Tea on their Terrace complete with fire pits! The food was delicious, but what made it all – as always – was the chit-chat with fellow Owners, some of whom had owned their Fig for years, and some of whom were new to the Figgy World!
After a lovely afternoon, we headed our respective ways, parting company as friends, looking forward to the next time we would meet again.
