Grill – How to fit a badge to your grill
Numerous car badges are available that owners may like to attach to their cars. This page shows you how to remove the Figaro grill, make any minor repairs (the neoprene seal around the edge usually needs reglueing), attach the badge, and reinstall the grill. Here, clung founder Kevin Fagan is adding an old UK AA Badge, which once belonged to his father-in-law, so it has a lot of nostalgic value.
HOW TO REMOVE THE GRILL
- To access the grill you will first need to remove your number plate. This is usually attached by two M6 bolts so you will need a 10mm Spanner. There is no nut to remove, just unscrew the bolt and the number plate will come away.
- Remove the 6 Phillips screws which attach the grill to that car. There are two on the left, two in the middle and two on the right.
- As you pull away the grill you will need to disconnect the two indicator lights. Both these are connected using a harness connector block. If you look closely you will see a clasp which if you press and pull the harness will separate.
- If you wish you can now remove the light assembled by rotating but this is not necessary.
- Now you can attach the badge, being careful that any bolts are not too long, reconnect the two lights, reinstall the grill and reattach the number plate.
REPAIR & POLISH
Whilst the grill was off, I took the opportunity to repair the neoprene seal that runs around the edge using a contact adhesive. This detaches itself over the years through aging. I also cleaned and polished all the individual nipples using a toothbrush with metal polish. This is much easier to do whilst the grill is on a bench rather than kneeling and trying to do it whilst on the car.
