LHD – A look a left hand drive Nissan Figaros
Despite popular belief, Nissan never actually manufactured any left-hand drive Figaros. If you’re lucky enough to own one, it would have gone through considerable modification to move the steering wheel and all the controls to the left-hand side of the car’s cabin.
When Nissan launched the Figaro back in 1991 it was only ever intended for the right-hand drive Japanese market. As the cars made their way to other countries, new owners demanded the car be available in left-hand drive format.
The modification involves extensive cutting, drilling and welding within the cabin area. Once the steering wheel, peddles and cockpit panel has been removed, the first part requires cutting off the steering support plate and welding into a new location on the left-hand side.
One area which requires extensive work is recreating the cockpit panel (which will be a mirror image of the original). This again is a long-winded conversion involving the manufacture of a custom-made fibreglass dash which will accept all the original instrumentation and glove box door.
According to Figs4u who are the leaders in these conversions, there are around 16 LHD Figs globally, 8 of them are Lapis Grey, 2 Emerald Green, 3 Pale Aqua and 3 in Topaz Mist. They are rare and as such demand high prices in access of 25
