NEC Classic Motor Show – Friday 9th/Sunday 12th November 2017

For the 5th time at this fantastic event the club set-up camp to spread some figgy-love. Club founder, editor and general tea maker Kevin takes up the story of a hectic 3 days…

The shows preparation started many weeks before on a wet and windy day in the office of Toby Brooks from The Figaro Shop. This 5 year partnership is essential to us as it means we share the cost of the stand and have experts at hand on the stand. To save money this year, Toby and I decided to re-lay the old carpet from last year which he had kept in one the companies many out-buildings. So on the set-up day we both unloaded the black carpet and turned our hands to some carpet fitting! This went down well and set the tone of the stand. I think the black carpet works so well with the cars, making them look just that extra bit desirable.

A few hours later we were joined by Ken Graham (Scottish Chapter Co-ordinator) and his friend and club member Richard Sneddon in his Emerald Green example. we set to work assembling the large back-drop banner (from The Figaro Shop), pop-up tables, video screen and other bits and bobs. Then around 4pm we had our 2nd Figaro (Topaz Mist) arrive which was kindly supplied by Paul Hodgkinson (North West Chapter Co-ordinator). With both cars positioned, a third turned up and this was the special low mileage car from The Figaro Shop. We left a gap for our last car which turned up around 5.30pm and was driven in by couple Alan & Sheena Harvey. With everyone now in place we were ready for the morning. Paul, Alan & Sheena went home whilst Ken & Richard and myself made our way to our hotel, a meal and well-earned beer! During the show we were also joined by Steve Newbold, Jane Ellison-Bates & Mark Bamforth.

Over the three days that followed, we must have spoken to literally hundreds of interested people. Winning the Best Club Run/Rally on the Friday was a fantastic achievement for such a small club. Read more
