Silverstone Classic – Friday 26th/Sunday 28th July 2019

A fun time was had by many of our members when they attended the Silverstone Classic over the weekend of the 26th/27th/28th July 2019

It was great to arrive on Friday morning at Silverstone Classic Car show and join the line of colourful Figaro’s. Everyone was very friendly and Belinda very efficient sorted us all out, organising that all engines were turned on together, it sounded great. We didn’t have to wait long to queue up in two rows, I got a great photo of the Figaro’s behind me from my wing mirror. The drive around the track was wonderful with waving and beeping from us all and even though you it was meant to be quite sedate run, a bit of extra acceleration on a couple of occasions added a bit of extra excitement! We want to congratulate Kevin and Sue for arranging this for us and also for all they have done for the club in the last ten years, it is much appreciated not just by us, but all the other members too.

I love the evening runs with my local classic car club during the summer, so when booking our tickets for Silverstone, I decided it might be quite nice to sign up for their 2019 Retro Run on the Saturday. A week before the event we received a pack containing a Retro Run plaque to display on the front of the car, a road book detailing the route with maps so we couldn’t get lost. Our start time was 9.52am from Stowe School. When we arrived there was about thirty classic cars on the lawn in front of the school. With four slightly different routes, we only saw about five other cars during our 100 mile run around the countryside of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. There was a stop midway at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works where we were able to tour the establishment and have refreshments. The following morning we were able to take part in a track parade around the Silverstone circuit again with the other Retro Run cars. Definitely something we will do again when visiting the Silverstone Classic, it only added to the already great time we’d had on the Friday meeting all the other Figaro owner’s and proudly driving around the track with them.
