Tayside Classic Car Show – Sunday 9th June 2024

Words and Pictures Scottish Chapter Coordinator Ken Graham

In what was proving to be a busy start to June for the Scottish Chapter, just a week after our Thirlestane Castle weekend we were off on our travels once again to Errol Airfield (between Perth and Dundee) for one of our favourite events, the Tayside Classic Car Show. It’s one of our favourites partly because, on our first visit a few years ago, we won the ‘Best Car Club Stand’ award (we keep trying to regain it, but so far without success!). Also, all proceeds go to children’s charities, and for members, it’s a favourite because of the location as it’s possible for those from a range of places in Scotland to attend without driving TOO far, at around a 1-hour 45-minute drive from both Glasgow and Aberdeen it is reasonably accessible.

Six cars, Fiona and Les Reid, Gillian Costello, Kevin Dodd, Heather and Reid Martin, and Ann Wardrop joined myself and Carol for the day, and although it stayed dry we were all extremely grateful to Ann for her foresight in bringing along a windbreak as it was just a bit breezy! We all had a great time chatting and catching up with each other. Kevin, Heather Reid and Carol and I were even able to do a wee bit of planning for our exciting trip at the start of July to show our cars with some other members, at the BritFest Music festival in Cheshire. (Hopefully a report on that in the next newsletter!)

Loads of the public visited us again (I’m always amazed how many people have still never seen a Figaro!) and, together with entertainment in the show ring ranging from pipe bands, dancing schools and even a dog agility display it was impossible to be bored.

The show always coincides with a local car boot sale too, so usually one or more members are struggling to fit a purchase in their Fig!

Once again, I’m forever grateful to all the members who support these events – I couldn’t ‘coordinate’ without you!
